Finished reading The One Thing by Gary Keller. Great book about how to focus on the one thing that will help you achieve your goal no matter what that goal is. Quick bits from the book: he talk about the 80/20 principle where 80% of your results comes from 20% of the work, prioritize your to-do list to make it a success list (BTW I will insert a reference to Warren Buffet here where he is quoted to say make a list of all your goals, then delete all but the top 5, even Warren says to trim back to only your top 5), Gary says trim back even more to the top 1 thing, spend all your time on that one thing, block off your time and only work in those blocks what you planned for those blocks – Gary says multitasking is a myth and doesn’t work, use discipline to make habits, will power is a limited (per day) resource, habits help preserve will power, work the extremes – focus 100% (extremely) on work when at work, family when at home, balance can be reached by focusing on the thing you are doing when you are there, it’s like a zig-zag walk, know how to think big vs small, there is big vs small thinking – and broad vs specific thinking, 4 quadrants and each one has its proper applications, set multiple goals – now, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, 5-year, big picture, there is an entrepreneurial vs purposeful approach, go purposeful, and be accountable vs the victim. Phew! I won’t go into detailed prose here because Gary has an awesome website with lots of amazing resources. Check it out: http://www.the1thing.com/

And read the book!
