After watching this video, it dawned on me that police “brutality” is as likely to happen to you as being killed in an airplane accident (figuratively speaking). Notice how any incident of airline tragedy is completely blown out of proportion? However you are MUCH more likely to die in an automobile accident.

But do we really focus on the more likely event? No, we focus on the unlikely one. Probably because the media exploits stories that are interesting, versus those most likely to happen to you. Nobody is perfect, and cops are only human. However you are much more likely to be injured or killed by a criminal than a cop, regardless of my race, religion, age, or sexual orientation.

We shouldn’t forget about a problem just because it’s very unlikely to occur, statistically speaking. But I do think our time is better spent, and the effort will save many more lives, if we focus more on the events that are more likely to occur.
